Anti-Ukrainian sanctions can be lifted temporarily for some firms

MOSCOW, Nov 2 (PRIME) -- The Russian government’s ruling on retaliatory sanctions against Ukraine allows it to remove affected companies from the list temporarily, an Industry and Trade Ministry representative told PRIME late on Thursday.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a ruling to freeze money on accounts, securities, and property of 322 Ukrainian individuals and 68 companies in Russia and to prohibit their funds repatriation in retaliation for Kiev’s sanctions.

The ministry’s representative said that the ruling obliges the government to balance commodity markets and prevent negative impacts from the sanctions on Russian companies.

“In accordance with article four of the ruling, we are allowed to issue temporary permits for some operations with some companies that are under the sanction restrictions. I mean that the ruling contains a mechanism for provision of temporary exemptions if it is necessary to ensure the interests of Russian companies,” the representative said.

“So, the Industry and Trade Ministry can use the mechanism when this or that external economic operation corresponds to Russian interests.”
